Salutations: A Memoir by Argie Ligeros
“If we are living to discover who we are, yoga has been my roadmap, my flashlight, my tuning fork, my high-tech navigational system, my guide, and my beacon.”

What do you do when the ground beneath you gives way—how do you learn to stand tall again?
As a young girl, Argie Ligeros lost her parents in the 1966 BOAC Flight 911 disaster over Mount Fuji—a tragedy that claimed 124 lives when the plane broke apart mid-air in violent turbulence. That single moment left her orphaned, carrying sorrow and unanswered questions that shadowed her childhood in Salt Lake City, distancing her from the roots of her Greek heritage.
Her search for belonging carried her into the dazzling chaos of 1970s Los Angeles, the glittering expat world of Acapulco, and the serene ashrams of spiritual masters. Like backward bending and forward folding through a yogic sun salutation, she flowed through marriage, friendship, motherhood, loss, and renewal.
When circumstances shifted, yoga anchored Argie, leading her to pioneer power yoga in Los Angeles and introduce the practice to elite athletes in Vail, Colorado. Grounded in a fifty-year devotion to yoga, Salutations is a memoir of resilience and a guide to awakening the inward path through life’s challenges.
Argie’s story speaks to readers navigating grief and unexpected turns—those searching for identity, longing to transcend circumstance, seeking purposeful connection, and moving through their own coming of age from innocence to wisdom.
When life is unsteady, she reminds us, stand tall in mountain pose: feet grounded, palms at the heart, eyes forward. Enter the stillness between movement and breath, and discover the strength waiting within.
Argie Ligeros, the founder of RG Life: Soul Fitness for the Ages, inspires generations with her holistic approach to wellness. Her reach goes beyond the studio with transformative yoga, esoteric practices, and timeless lessons for living well at every age—wisdom captured in her debut memoir, Salutations.
Greetings from the Author:
My memoir unfolds in twelve salutations—chapters that mirror the rhythm of the sun salutation I have practiced over 50,000 times. The number twelve has shaped my path: the twelve Olympian gods of my Greek heritage; the twelve months that measure our years; the twelve houses of the zodiac that chart our lives; the age of twelve, when tragedy altered my course; and the twelve chakras, energetic centers that illuminate the inner journey.
Each salutation is a posture and prayer, a greeting to experience—joyful or painful, grounding or transcendent. Together they form a cycle of rising and bowing, opening and returning, breathing and becoming. When circumstances are unsteady, yoga has taught me to stand tall in mountain pose—feet rooted, palms pressed, gaze forward.
Welcome to Salutations. May these twelve gestures of my life meet you like the dawning sun, awakening resilience and welcoming you home to yourself.
